Weekend Trip to Horton Plains, World's End and Nuweraeliya

With the heating going up in Colombo there wasn't a place better than Nuwaraeliya for us to head off to for a enjoyable weekend. Since the last trip we had to Wasgamuwa there hasn't been any official trips happening and this was why I was keen on a weekend out before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year holidays, National Planning, National Conference and Trasition all has me tied up big time.

The tirp was fun!!! I can recall many good memories but none crazier than a learning circle on 'SHIT' ( yeah you read that right) next to world's end. We were having a powerful conversation bringing out our full creativity and even moved on to passing legislative motions etc. on different crazy points that I'm not gonna get into here.

Our trip involved a hike on Horton Plains to reach the World's End (a 90degree 1,050 m precipice) and the trek back to the breath taking Baker Falls where everybody just sat on the rocks and enjoyed the beauty of nature in silence for sometime.

The second picutre has the soft toy I suddenly decided to buy near Victoria Park ( later me and my brother named him Spiky). I dont know why I suddenly wanted to buy this but the thought that came to my head was that I should have a companion with me to travel to Thailand if I'm selected. Somebody who's always there for me and listens to me ( nevermind he's not gonna be replying to me) ...and shares my passions and concerns.

Thank you for all the people who joined in and made the trip so enjoyable and especial thanks to Ashan for making it happen. Will I have time to join you guys on another trip?

Bridge To Terabithia

Today I wanted to relax a bit and clear my mind...walking around the city I decided to step in to the Cinema to see the movie they had... "Bridge to Terabithia".

Found the movie to be extremely refreshing and captivating. The kid in me had some unadulterated entertaintment !!! I recomend you to also go and even take kids along to let them enjoy the power of imagination and friendship. The story for me was that, the power of imagination and the power of freindship. I've always been a big fan of fantasy and magic which you can experience throughout the movie.

The true essesnse of that friendship between the main charactors touched me big time, may be because that is something I've had in my life of late. I do miss the good old days playing around with my friends from the neighbourhood. Ever since Amal ayya and Jayani moved ( now in NZ) and we started growing up and heading our own ways its never been the same.

Searching about the movie just now I got to know that it was brought to life from a book of the same name. If the movie was this good imagine what the book must be like !!! yeah, I'm a believer that movies cannot capture the magic of the books.

Your can catch the trailer for the movie here..

Google Generation

I just started using another Google that makes managing your blog more interesting and advanced. The tool can help you track hits to your webpage and much more...

I just got to know that since last Monday when I started using Google Analytics my blog has received 25 visits from the following cities...

Kolonnawa (Sri Lanka), Singapore ,Adliswil(Switzerland) ,Colombo(Sri Lanka) ,Linz(Austria) ,London(UK),Black Flat (Australia) ,Hyderabad (India),Brighton(US) ,Recco(Italy),Ovca(Serbia) ,Seattle(US),Big Rapids(US),Thunder Bay(US),Guldmoen(Norway),Sofia(Bulgaria) ,Canterbury(UK) ,Warsaw(Poland) ,Hemel Hempstead(UK) ,Abidjan(Côte d'Ivoire)

Ain't that AMAZING !!! The image below shows part of the report I got...

Another Google tool I' ve found useful is the Google Reader which helps me to track the blogs of my friends and keep myself updated by visiting a single page instead of trying to visit each blog seperately.
It's a Google generation !!!

A chinese name for me :)

Was researching now how to write WELCOME in Cantonese cause we have an intern from Hong Kong coming to Sri Lanka tmrw when I came across a site that gives you Chinese names, remembering that the Chinese have their English names that they choose ( I think more or less as they feel like) I also thought to get myself a Chinese name :D

Xin - new
Kang - peaceful, quiet; happy, healthy

Sounds Chinese, ne? :)

The following is the disclaimer that came with it ...

"Hello, Suchith Abeyewickreme! Above is the Chinese name which was "inspired" by your English name. Chinese uses characters rather than an alphabet, so names cannot be directly translated from English to Chinese. However, Chinese characters can be chosen which approximate the English pronounciation, which is what this program does.
Chinese names generally have 3 characters. The surname, which is usually 1 character, comes first. Next are one or two characters which are chosen by the parents (or the grandparents in traditional Chinese culture). This program chooses the surname and given names according to the spelling of your name and the characteristics you choose. The selection is not unique though. Every time you use this tool, you will likely get a different name. So if you don't like the first name you get, try again.

This page is mostly created for entertainment. Real Chinese names should be chosen by someone who knows the nuances of Chinese language and culture. Ask a native speaker if you want a Chinese name you will actually use. Also, this tool will not translate Chinese names written in English back to their original Chinese form."

If you also want to get yourself a Chinese name and add a bit of Asian Colour :) its just few clicks away ...http://www.mandarintools.com/
